Unforgettable personal memory of Saint John Paul II

The above video is a reminiscent video when Abba Tesfamariam Baraki attended Pope John Paull II’s Audience took place at the Sistine Chapel on October 9, 1998 during the International Conference on Migration and Refugees sponsored by the Vatican: A breathtaking look inside and outside the Vatican City!.

The members of the Baraki Family at home and in Diaspora have been terribly saddened by the tragic and untimely death of the Reverend Abba Teum Tesfay, a close relative and great friend of our family in February 2014. We express our deepest sympathy and wish comfort to the members of his family and to the Adigrat Eparchy and to the entire Irob people. May his soul rest in peace!

These videos were taped during my visit in 1992 to Alitena (Irob) and when the late Reverend Abba Teum Tesfay was pastor of the Lideta-Mariam Parish. They are posted in the loving memory of Abba Teum who devotedly served the people of the parish before he left for higher theological studies in Rome. After finishing his studies and earning his Master’s Degree in Divinity or Pastoral Theology and returning back to his country, Ethiopia, and after serving his Eparchy of Adigrat, Tigray, with full dedication and tireless labor as a Coordinator of Pastoral Activities, he was tragically killed in a car accident in February 2014. May his soul rest in peace!!

The Reverend Abba Abraha Baraki Writes A Thank You Note To The NCCL For The Funds Received To Help Assefa Have Weekly Dialysis And The Needed Catheter Procedure.

Dear Mr. Gregory Lloyd,

Thank you for your great efforts that you’re doing to help my nephew Asefa Hailu Baraki. Every week St. Yared Hospital has received the money for dialysis from Br. Cesare Bullo of the Salesian Congregation through the hands of Asefa Hailu’s sister (Zaid Hailu Baraki, older sister who takes care of Assefa during his illness). She receives the money of weekly dialysis every week, and after she paid the hospital gives the receipt to Br. Cesare Bullo of the Salesian Congregation.

Every week St. Yared Hospital received the dialysis-money; and his sister received 9,800 ETH Birr from Br. Cesare Bullo for the Catheter’s procedure. The Catheter was changed from his neck to his hand to avoid infections, and she gave the receipt to the Brother.

Thanks to your help Asefa is alive until now!

I remember you and all our charitable people in my daily prayers. I hope you remember me in yours.
God bless you with all your family!

Yours truly,

Abba Abraha Baraki

Assefa visited by his uncle Abba Abraha Baraki at the hospital
Assefa is visited by his uncle the Rev. Abba Abraha Baraki who travels over 400 kilometers from southern Ethiopia to pay him a visit at Saint Yared General Hospital in Addis Ababa, the Capital City of Ethiopia. Abba Abraha has been taking all the burden to pay all the expensive hospitalization and the ongoing dialysis treatments (three-times a week) bills from his pocket exhausting every penny he saved in order to prolong Assefa’s life with the hope that some charitable help arrives. Thanks to the NCCL (National Coalition of Clergy and Laity) based in Pennsylvania, United States, already for 18 kidney-dialysis treatments had been paid about a month ago, which had been great help to prolong his life.

But Assefa needs more help from more people who care like those people in NCCL in the United States of America so that his ongoing kidney-dialysis treatments won’t stop because of lack of funds and that he will be enabled to have kidney transplantation to live longer and improve the quality of his life.
